  1. CHANTI update F. Ambrosino, T. Capussela, D. Di Filippo, P. Massarotti, M. Mirra, M. Napolitano, L. Roscilli, G. Saracino

  2. Outlook • Construction & installation • CHANTI-FE boardscalibration and tests • ToTboardscalibration and tests • Progress on DCS • Commissioning schedule • To do list • Conclusions

  3. Construction • All of the sixstationshavebeenfullyassembled and cabled • All of the 300 SiPMshavebeentested for funtionality. A subset (25%) testedatdiferenttemperatures to compare temperature behaviourwrt Hamamatsu specs • All of the connections with SiPMs and Pt100 probescheckedbeforeassembly

  4. Construction (2)

  5. Construction (3)

  6. Construction (4)

  7. Installation • CHANTI stationsaligned in Napoli to +- 0,5 mm. The last CHANTI station hasadjustablefeet to thisaim. • Check of alignment re-doneat CERN aftertransportation. • Installation on the beam line and surveysuccessful.

  8. Installation (2)

  9. Installation (3) Small problem with the o-ring preventedus to complete the cabling and install the signalflanges. Thiswill be doneduring the September 15th week.

  10. CHANTI ToTboards: requests All the TOT mezzanines for the CHANTI have been modified in order to obtain • G = 2 • Hysteresis of the order of 5 mV • Hysteresis corresponding to a lower threshold on the rising edge of the signal signal hysteresis threshold

  11. Modified mezzanines: test All the 160 CHANTI mezzanines, corresponding to 640 channels, have been tested. ToT is evaluated with two different pulses, (mirror pulses), as a function of the threshold. In this way the value of the hysteresis and the threshold calibration parameters can be obtained. 50 ns 50 ns 10 ns 10 ns 10 ns 10 ns

  12. Modified mezzanines: results All the 160 CHANTI-TOT mezzanines, corresponding to 640 channels, have been tested and only 7 of them are not good (already sent to the Artel for repair). We have however enough good channels for the full CHANTI instrumentation. The hysteresis is in agreement with the requests Hyst(mv)

  13. Modified mezzanines: results All the 160 CHANTI-TOT mezzanines, corresponding to 640 channels, have been tested and only 7 of them are not good (already sent to the Artel for repair). We have however enough good channels for the full CHANTI instrumentation. The slope distribution is about 0,15 mV/DAC (as expected for G=2) Slope(mV/DAC)x10-1

  14. Modified mezzanines: results All the 160 CHANTI-TOT mezzanines, corresponding to 640 channels, have been tested and only 7 of them are not good (already sent to the Artel for repair). We have however enough good channels for the full CHANTI instrumentation. The average offset is 8 mV Offset(mV)

  15. CHANTI-FE CALIBRATION Semi-automatic DAC calibrationsystemdeveloped in Napoli. The procedure needs a picoAmperometer and a calibrated high resistence in order to calibrate both the DAC voltagevalue (read and set by CHANTI-FE) and the DAC currentvalue (read by CHANTI-FE). Single-channelcalibration for 9 CHANTI-FE boardshasbeenperformedat CERN in July. Twovalues for the resistive loadshavebeedused (1GΩ and 500MΩ). 32 X KeithleypicoAmperometer MUX CHANTI-FE Calibrated high impedenceresistor

  16. CHANTI-FE CALIBRATION Example: CH1 of board 1 calibration with 500MΩload Volt Set voltagecalibration DAC value μA Read currentcalibration DAC value

  17. CHANTI-FE CALIBRATION Comparison of voltage-slope of board 1 channels for the twodifferentloads (redpoints 1GΩ, blue points 500MΩ). Voltage Slope (Volt/DAC) #CH

  18. CHANTI-FE CALIBRATION Parametersdistribution for voltagecalibration (500MΩload ) for allchannels Slopeparameter Volt/DAC Constantparameter Volt

  19. CHANTI-FE CALIBRATION Testingcalibration procedure: measure I-V curves of SiPMs with twodifferentapproaches: 1) Keithleyused to applyvoltage and measurecurrent 32 X Board containingSiPM Keithley Source Voltage CurrentMeter MUX 2) Keithleyused to measurecurrent; CHANTI-FE applyvoltage and measurecurrent 32 X Board containingSiPM CHANTI-FE MUX Keithley CurrentMeter

  28. Commissioning schedule • Signalflangesnotmountedyet (missingorings) • Internalcablingcompleted and tested (all of SiPMs look fine) • Externalcabling and finallycommissioningwill start in the week of September 15th and willlikely last till the beginning of the Run. • Howeverall of the parts of the systemhavealreadybeentestedindividually.

  29. To do list • Upgrade of digitization and reconstruction on MC (deadline: fewmonths ago actually…butnotenoughmanpower up to now) • Raw data definition and L1/L2 sw (deadline: end of September) • Completion of DCS and inclusion in general framework (deadline: November)

  30. Conclusions • The CHANTI isinstalled and (almost) ready to take data !!! January 2009
