Man in the red sweater
Judge Miller Judge Miller was Buck’s faithful, first owner before Manuel sold him away. Buck was the king of the house and did what ever he wanted to, and protected those around him.. He went hunting with the judge’s sons, too.
Manuel Manuel was Judge Miller’s assistant gardener. He had a very bad gambling problem; especially for Chinese gambling. Manuel had to sell Buck cause he lost all of his money to gambling.
Man in the Red Sweater This man is important because he broke Buck. He taught him the law of the club; the man in the red sweater was the first human to show Buck true cruelty.
Francois and Perrault Francois and Perrault were Buck’s first masters. They bought him to go and search for gold in the North, being Buck’s possibly most loyal and just owners after John Thornton. They taught Buck how to survive and built him to be the dog he is today.
Spitz Spitz was the lead sleigh dog before Buck and Spitz got in a brawl to Spitz’s death. He was very cruel, unjust and brutal. Spitz also picks on the weaker dogs. He was constantly fighting with Buck even though they secretly had a lot in common, including their constant lusts for power.
Mercedes, Charles, and Hal They had a big impact on Buck; next to the Man in the Red Sweater, these were Buck’s most cruel and inexperienced owners. Mercedes over fed them and so they started to starve. Charles worked Buck and his team so hard, that they were barley able to move. They were riding along an ice trail when Buck and Hans stopped and left them to go by themselves. After they left, the ice cracked and they sled dog team went under the water.
John Thornton John Thornton was Buck’s owner before Buck ran away for a while, and came back to a group of Yeehats that invaded camp and killed John Thornton. John Thornton was Buck’s most kind, gentle, loyal, and just owner. He taught the main character kindness, love, and how to treat other people properly.
