  1. Today’s Quiz What is the meaning of .............? Canonical book? Testament? Gospel? What are the evidences to proof that the 4 Gospels are canonical and sound? What is the Wisdom behind 4 Gospels?

  2. Last Week Conclusion; 4 Gospels only • The 4 Gospels ties with the 4 Covenants, 4 Creatures, and Eden River that divided into 4 rivers. • There are Internal evidences; within the Bible (old & New Testaments) to prove the 4 Gospels. • External evidences; only 4 Canonical Gospels are inspired by the Holy Spirit, witnessed (& recognised) by the Apostolic fathers, Church tradition, the early translations, and the writings of the church fathers during the first 4 Centuries. • Fake Gospels is the work of anti-Christ and have pieces of the truth.

  3. Canonical book • Lawful and wrritin by a true prophet or an apostle. • Inspired by God the Holy Spirit and convey all the truth about God and His message to God’s people. • Has internal evidences; within the Bible (old & New Testaments) to prove it-agreeing, completing, and complementing the rest of Holy Scripture. • Has external evidences; to witness it is inspired by the Holy Spirit, and recognised by church apostolic leaders, Church tradition, the early translations, and the writings of the church fathers/scholars during the first 4 Centuries.

  4. Meaning of ‘Testament’ • Means a Covenant, Sealed-Deal, or an agreement/Official Contact. And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar. Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people.” (Exodus 24: 6-7) • Trust, as in I trusted this person with such duty (commitment).

  5. Meaning of Gospel • Gospel is a Greek word means: Telling the Good News, Thanksgiving for hearing the Good News, and Receiving (having) the good News! • Please refer to page:11-14

  6. Gospel as in the Gospels

  7. Gospel as in the Gospels

  8. Gospel as in the Gospels

  9. Necessity of a written Gospel • To complete the verbal tradition; verbal tradition had its important role in the Church, especially in the East. The written tradition was born not to replace the verbal one, but to supplement and complete it. • The Gospel confirm that our Christian conduct is according to Scripture’s Principles and Doctrine.

  10. Necessity of a written Gospel • To communicate to us the bibliography of our Lord Jesus Christ on earth. Christ is the desire of the Gentiles, the Savior and Bridegroom of the Church, and the secret of our daily joy. • Having a document that will last until the second coming of our Lord (future’s need & proof). The disciples preached the Gospels with great joy as a prepared road to ‘Maranatha’, or the appearance of the Lord in His second coming (1 Corinthians 16: 22).

  11. Necessity of a written Gospel • The main source of Evangelism and support to both the Jews and Gentiles. • The Main source of the Liturgical worship in the Church.

  12. Proper title to the Gospel: • The Gospel written by Saint Matthew or according to Saint Matthew. • Not the Gospel of St ……!.

  13. I or 4 Gospels! • There is only 1 Gospel or good news, but 4 authors. • 4 authors documented the same events of the Gospel proves that they were inspired by the same Spirit (God the Holy Spirit) to deliver the Gospel to different nations. • The 4 authors reveal the unity of the Gospel: Even though 4 Evangelists wrote it, each wrote a Gospel. The Gospel is only one book with four faces. In another word, the Word of God was recorded in four texts, and the expression ‘according to St ….’ refers to the face, angle or point of view to be delivered by each author.

  14. 1 or 4 Gospels • The 4 authors reveal the unity of the Gospel ….. Continued. • Each describes a face/angle of the life and saving work of the Lord. • The 4 give a foursome true picture of the person of Christ and His ministry. • The foursome enables the viewers (us) to enjoy its beauty from different point of views.

  15. The 4 Gospels are Canonical and Sound • The 4 Evangelists wrote from different places at different times. How and why would they tell the same stories in order to deceive people! • The Evangelists mentioned names of personalities, events and towns that were confirmed by historians (like Youssefos); both (Gospels & History books) are related. • If the Evangelists were imposters and intended to deceive others, they would not have presented Christ as a weak Man that gets crucified, died, and buried at least to the Greek and Romans!

  16. The 4 Gospels are Canonical and Sound • The Apostles recorded their own shameful behavior: Peter’s denials, the escape of the Disciples, and Judas Iscariot’s betrayal. • If these events were not true, it would not suit them to fabricate such stories! • In addition, they recorded their modest jobs before being Disciples; such as tax collector, fishermen,... • When the Gospels were written and published, many of the personalities mentioned in the Gospels were still alive. Therefore, the Gospels presented living facts that could not be denied or defeated.

  17. The 4 Gospels are Canonical and Sound • Gospel tell us the stories without illustrations, eloquence of text, or exclamation, or notation and commentary. • The Evangelists honestly and plainly record the life, teachings and saving work of our Lord. • They recorded the rebuking of our Lord to His Disciples due to their lack of faith and understanding, their cowardly behavior and forsake during time of arrest and tribulation (the denial of Peter & treason of Judas, and their hopelessness after crucifixion. The Gospels did not hide, alter or justify anything. • Also, they did not exaggerate any event. The writers did not care for their own reputation, but refrained from mentioning their names. • Their only mission was to tell the story of the Lord Jesus that by itself carries an undisputable weight, joy, and awe to the heart of all who read it. As Jesus taught us, you know the truth and the truth sets you free ….. we love the truth.

  18. Wisdom behind 4 Gospels • Thus the Gospels express four angles, faces or pictures of one God, Gospel and Good News. • Each Gospel serve a certain purpose, completes and complements the other 3. • Our Lord Christ is like an infinite (vast) ocean and the 4 Gospels are likened to floodlights shining over such unique incarnated Logos (God).
