Judaism in the workplaceFriday afternoon/Saturday • No work is permitted from sundown on Friday afternoon, until nightfall on Saturday night • In the winter months, the earliest sunset is approximately 3:30pm • Religious Jews will not use transportation on the Sabbath • Employees need to be home in time for sunset, this can mean leaving as early as 1:30pm in the winter • There is a large range in level of observance

Judaism in the workplaceReligious festivals • No work is permitted from sundown on the afternoon preceding a festival, until nightfall after the festival • Employees need to be home in time for sunset, as with Friday afternoons • Employers should be aware that there are five ‘working’ fast days on which religious Jews do not eat or drink • Four are dawn until dusk • One is 25 hours • There is a large range in level of observance!!!
