Credits & Weightings • All taught modules are worth 7.5 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System). • The PROJECT is worth 15 credits. • All taught modules are weighted 100. • The PROJECT is weighted 350.
Registration • Registration Details: Thurs., 30th Sept., 6:30– 8:30p.m. - LIBRARY • YOUR responsibility! (Check Portal Page). • Register for modules you plan to complete in the academic year you’re registering for ONLY: - 2 weeks to change your registration at start of each semester: - Complete ‘Change of Module Choice’ R37 (www.dcu.ie/registry/forms/pdfs/R37_Module.pdf) - To de-register from a module, you must complete the same form. • Unable to take exam due to illness: - MUST submit Medical Cert. to Exams Office within 1 week of exam date. • Unable to take exam due to ‘extenuating circumstances’: - Complete ‘Deferral of Exam’ R33 (www.dcu.ie/registry/forms/pdfs/R33_Deferral.pdf)prior to exam date & sumbit to Programme Chair for approval (N.B. only granted in genuine circumstances).
Registration (contd.) • To defer an entire academic year, complete a ‘Deferral of Academic Year’ R32 (www.dcu.ie/registry/forms/pdfs/R32_Defacadem.pdf) • Unexplained absences from exams result in a FAILED ATTEMPT. Therefore: - Ensure you’re registered correctly from the outset. - Complete the appropriate forms to explain absences. • Visit the Registry site at www.dcu.ie/registry/ • If you require, e.g: - Letters to confirm your student status - Printed transcript of results - Your portal password contact INFORMATION SECTION in the REGISTRY.
Fees • The onus is on you to arrange fee payment. • All E.U. students on Masters/Grad. Dip. are supported under H.E.A.’s ‘Graduate Skills Conversion Programme’ (p/timers funded for 2 years only). Transfer Cert to Diploma to Masters • Cert students may transfer to the G.D. having successfully completed 4 modules. • If you subsequently wish to transfer to the Masters an average of 55% from the 4 modules completed on the Cert. plus any 2 modules taken on the G.D. is required. • ALL modules considered for transfer purposes must be passed at the FIRST ATTEMPT. • In addition, students MAY be required to attend an interview.
TransferGraduate Diploma to Masters Students on the G.D. who obtain one of the following will be given the option to transfer to the MASTERS: 1. an average of 55% in the first 4 modules taken and passed at FIRST ATTEMPT. 2. an average of 55% in ANY 6 modules they pass at FIRST ATTEMPT.
TransferGrad Diploma to Masters (contd). • Students who complete the G.D. requirment of 60 Level 5 credits, and who have NOT met the 6 module, 55% threshold for transfer, may continue to attempt to achieve the threshold by taking additional modules (only one attempt is permitted for such additional modules). Award classification will be based on grades achieved in the FIRST 8 modules taken. • NOTE: Students who qualify to transfer will be offered the opportunity to transfer OR to accept/complete the lower qualification. Students who opt to transfer will not be awarded the lower qualification
Transfer Options Between Qualifications • To transfer between qualifications, e.g. MEN to MTC, or between FULL-TIME and PART-TIME modes, you MUST complete an ‘Internal Transfer’ form, and submit it according to deadlines laid down by the Admissions Office. Examinations • Sem. 1: Mon. 17/01/05 – Fri. 28/01/05. • Sem. 2: Mon. 16/05/05 – Sat. 28/05/05. No Autum Repeats on these programmes – if you fail, you can register as a Repeat Student and retake it at next sitting • Exam timetable (Exams Office) – displayed student portal pages and DCU site 4-6 weeks prior to exams.

The Project • Projects are allocated ONCE a year, at the beginning of March (for students submitting a project in the following August and January). • Priority is given to students due to complete the Masters by the following September. • Allocation based on aggregate marks if two students select the same project. • Projects are submitted in EITHER January or August – if a submission date is deferred, you must register for the project again but to submit at the next submission date.
