Job Description • Stylists are in charge of making outfit selections • Fashion stylists can style for a variety of events and clients such as: award shows, magazine editorials, movie wardrobe, daily client outfit selection, special events and more.
Education • Most stylists are self made or simply find their way into the position. • Many start with internships, blogging or working with friends. • Full-time personal stylist Valerie Fowler says she simply made a website and got a phone call, thus receiving her first styling gig.
Abilities • Color sense • Some fashion trend knowledge • Networking abilities to build clientele • Access to garments (either borrow or purchasing)
Personal Qualities Stylists must be: • Driven • Hard-workers • Have good fashion sense • Be personable to work with clients
Salary According to Fashion-Schools.org: • Entry Level Fashion Stylists: $150-$200/day • Experienced Fashion Stylists: $500-$5,000/day • Top-level Fashion Stylists: above $5,000/day; $100,000 or more annually
