What is SACNAS?Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science “SACNAS is a society of scientists dedicated to fostering the success of Hispanic/Chicano and Native American scientists—from college students to professionals—to attain advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership.”
The Conference • Improving the Human Condition: Challenges for Interdisciplinary Science • October 15-18, 2009, Dallas, TX, Sheraton Hotel • students, postdocs, educators, administrators, and researchers in all disciplines of science, mathematics, and engineering.

Travel Awards Expenses the Travel Scholarship Covers • * Roundtrip airfare to/from Dallas, Texas • * Hotel lodging (room and tax only) Expenses NOT Included in the Travel Scholarship • * Ground transportation to/from airports • * Conference registration fees • * Membership dues • * Charges that accompany changes to flight itinerary after flight reservation has been booked
Applying for Awards • Get sponsored by me (we’ll do this today) • Start a MySACNAS account and get an ID and all that • Register for the conference • Apply for the travel scholarship (personal statement and a letter of recommendation, etc.) • Submit an abstract of your research so that you can present a poster when you go (IF you are doing research right now)
