State Objectives • SC.2.4.1 Identify that plants and animals have different structures • SC.2.4.2 Identify the structures of physical characteristics of living things and explain their functions • SC.2.4.3 Sequence pictures of events to illustrate the changes in the life cycle of plants and animals
RLA.2.1.3 Identify and use grade level appropriate sight words and reading vocabulary • RLA.2.2.2 Develop a story with proper sequence • SS.2.4.4 Examine a variety of maps and globes to identify and describe major geographic features

Utilize Media & Materials • Day 1 • Read The Magic School Bus on the Ocean • Floor by Joanna Cole • Students write a small paragraph about • ocean • Be introduced to ocean vocabulary words
Day 2 • Read Pagoo by Holling • Students begin to learn about aquatic • animals and complete a handout • Learn life cycles of aquatic animals • Students will learn the layers of the • ocean
Day 3 • Read This is the Sea that Feeds Us by Robert F. Baldwin • Activity in separating aquatic and land animals • Students explore the internet on webpage Secrets of the Ocean Realm and complete a handout
Day 4 • Read Beneath the Ocean by Franklin Watts • Students will study oceans of the world – Complete map of oceans • Learn about plants of the ocean • Learn life cycles of aquatic plants
Day 5 • Read The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister • Vocabulary quiz • Write a story about the ocean • Students will participate in setting up a classroom aquarium
Require Learner Participation • To help keep the student’s attention, I incorporated activities into learning • I also used lessons that required students to work together in groups
Evaluate & Revise • Students will be tested on ocean vocabulary words • Students will learn the difference in land dwelling and aquatic animals • Students will write a story about the ocean, containing all the information they have learned
