  1. Slovak University of Technology Faculty of Material Science and Technology in Trnava ControlSystemsDesign 2007

  2. Control Systems Design Distributed control systems - process control level: • Process level • Sensors • Actuators • Programmable controllers • Operator interfaces • Lateral communications • Vertical communications...

  3. Control Systems Design Distributed Control Systems - Upper Control Level: • Operator level • operator displays • on line control process monitoring • operator process control • process data acquisition • process data history trends aggregation ...

  4. The process level provides the primary functions of a control system: • Acquisition and primary processing of continuous and binary technological variables • Control action computation according given algorthms of continuous or logical control • Realization of computed control action • Alarm generation under abnormal, special events in controlled system or control one as well

  5. The process level provides the primary functions of a control system (continued): • Fault operation blocking of control system and control system transition into safety state • Selfdiagnostic of control system hardware • secondary proccesing of analog and binary technological variables used on upper level control • horizontal and vertical communication of distributed control systems units...

  6. The operator level is usually configured for the functions: • controlled technological process monitoring • control process visualisation • alarms processing • on line trends generating • off line historical trends archiving and historical data presentation • for higher control system level data aggregation.

  7. The design of control systems is a complex problem: • process level distributed control systems design with programmable controllers • control process monitoring design • operator interface design (HMI/MMI) • SCADA system design • Real time Database design...

  8. The scope of the DCS course • Process Level - Control Loop - SW life cycle: • I/O analogue and binary variable acquisition and primary processing • Control action executing • Alarms/events processing and managing. • The scope of the course Control System Design is specified as follows: • Data processing design • Control loop design • Design process documentation

  9. The scope of the DCS course • Data processing design • Control loop design • Design process documentation • Key words • User Requirements Specification • Functional Specification • HW / SW design • Documentation Specification

  10. Control Loop Design • Single Control Loop • Cascade Control Loop • master /Slave control loops • Ratio Control • set point programming • mixture technology • Feed Forward Control • on a disturbance • on a set point

  11. Control Loop Design consists of steps: • Dynamic system model identification • Dynamic process simulation • Control parameter optimisation • Control process simulation • Control loop stability verification • Control loop performance verification

  12. Life Cycle Documentation • User Requirements Specification • Functional Specification • Hardware Specification • Software Specification • Test planning – control system verification, control system validation, FAT, SAT • Operator&System manuals • Control system maintenance documentation

  13. The Course Scope • User Requirements Specification • what should to do • Functional Specification • what will to do • Process Model Identification • transfer function • Control Parameters Optimisation • P, PI, PD, PIDA, PIDB... • Control Process Simulation • control process verification
