Goals of Paranalization • Test the robustness of the instrument • Ensure operatibility of the instrument in the science operations group • Verify instrumental performance and magnitude limits
MIDI - runs on the Unit Telescopes • first fringes obtained on December 15, 2002 • comm 1 in February 2003 • comm 2 in May 2003 • paranalization, GTO/SDT in June 2003 • paranalization in August and September 2003 • SDT in November 2003 • comm 3 in December 2003 • paranalization and GTO/SDT in January/February 2004 • science operations will start in P73 (Apr 2004)
Identified problems • OPD jumps • Tunnel/light duct seeing • M2 return accuracy when chopping • MIDI tracking on ghost (2% vs 40% visibility, ±3.5mm from nominal OPD) on very bright objects
