Lesson 105-107 – Jeremiah 16–52 No respecter of persons
Acts 10:34-35 • “God is no respecter of persons” • What does this phrase mean? • What matters to the Lord are your deeds and your heart. • Today we are going to illustrate this principle in Jeremiah • As individuals • As nations
The Tale of Ebed-melech • Unlike Isaiah, Jeremiah didn’t seem to have much sway among royalty or the ability to stay out of trouble. • He was cast into prison multiple times • Jeremiah 38:4-6 • Cast into a “miry dungeon”. • Was it just mud do you think? • v7-13
Jeremiah 39:15-18 • What was Ebed-melech’s reward for believing in and helping the prophet? • Who was that reward originally promised to? • What happen to King Zedekiah, king of the Jews? • Jeremiah 39:4-8 • The Lord is no respecter of persons.
Jeremiah then speaks to nations • Read passage, identify your nation • Answer the following: • Was the prophecy favorable or unfavorable? • What destructions would come upon the nation? • Does the scripture say whether the people were wicked or righteous? • Come mark the nation on the map (use Bible maps/index)
How do we see this today? • How is the Lord no respecter of persons today? • Gospel going out to all nations • Anyone accepted, only must repent and live righteously • How can we be “no respecters” as well? • Be successful car salesmen. • How can we write off any of God’s children? • Often the ones you don’t think will accept the gospel are those who are most ready.
Notebook Ideas • What are some judgments of people that you make sometimes that you would like to overcome? • How can the Spirit help you be tolerant and accepting of all of God’s children? • What does it mean to you that God does not care about your past or situation, just about your good work?
