  2. Introduction • Genesis 3:15 – protoevangelium, the first gospel • First promise of redemption • Genesis 3:15 is the rationale for human history • Charles Simeon – Genesis 3:15 is “the sum and summary of the whole Bible.”

  3. The Context of Genesis 3:15 • At the beginning of human history • Adam and Eve had sinned against God, knowing that the penalty was death • For Satan there is no hope • For Adam and Eve, there is judgment, but there is hope

  4. Three Predictive Teachings • Endless Conflict • Temporary Defeat • Eventual Victory

  5. 1. Endless Conflict • Enmity = hostility, animosity…there will be a war • Offspring = “seed” • Seed of the woman – a godly seed from whom the redeemer will come (see also Gal.3:16) • Seed of Satan – a people who will seek to wipe out the promise and the people who believe in the promise • Conflict of the Ages – the seed of the woman vs. the seed of the serpent.

  6. 2. Temporary Defeat • “You will strike his heel” • Satan will harm the Messiah. • On Good Friday, as Christ died upon the cross Satan stuck His heel.

  7. 3. Eventual Victory • “He will crush your head” • Heel vs. Head and Crush vs. Strike • The cross was God’s death blow against Satan • Satan still has power even as Germany after D-Day still continued to do battle, although their fate was sealed as is Satan’s.

  8. How does this apply to us? • The Christian life will always be a struggle. • Our victories will not come without wounds. • God’s plan of salvation is wrapped up in a person – Jesus is the seed of the woman.

  9. Three Questions • Have you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord…or are you still on the way? • If you are still on the way…where are you in the journey? • Are you ready to receive Christ as Savior and Lord?

  10. Sinner’s Prayer Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. And I know that I cannot save myself. I turn away from my religion, from my good works, from anything good I have ever done and from anything good I will ever do. Apart from your mercy and grace, Lord Jesus Christ, I have no hope. I do believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins. Lord Jesus, right now I trust you and you alone for my salvation. I ask you to come into my life to be my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for taking my sins away. Amen.
