  4. Student Support • Link Crew - upper class students assigned to be “big brothers and sisters” to 9th graders. • Tutorials – on Wednesday & Thursday • Student Assistance Program • School Psychologist • School Nurse • SRO - School Resource Officer

  5. Extended Learning Center • Monday thru Thursday • In the Library • From 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. • School Bus will pick up for rides home. • Two teachers are available, one Math and one Other

  6. Course Expectations • Expect 20-45 minutes of homework nightly (depending on the course) • Get a tutor if needed • Proofread written assignments • A student must receive a “C-” or better in order to advance to the next level of a subject

  7. Tracking Student Progress • Talk with your student about classes • Contact teachers • Have your student complete weekly progress reports • Register for an ISIS account

  12. Register for an ISIS Account • This is mainly for checking Attendance • Go to www.aptoshs.net • Click the ISIS link • Follow the registration directions *GPA and transcript info on ISIS is not always accurate

  13. Attendance Policy • You must call the Attendance Office daily to report absence • The school will verify handwritten notes • Phone dialer should call home if student is absent from class without prior excuse • You may request homework by contacting the teacher via email or phone, or by checking their website

  14. Athletics and Activities • Statistics indicate that students who are involved do better in school • 2.0 GPA and passing 5 classes to remain eligible for athletics • Attendance and discipline issues can affect eligibility • Students are responsible for making up work and staying current in classes missed due to athletic events • Participation enhances opportunities for scholarships and the college application process • Club participation

  15. Student Activities • Homecoming Week (Oct. 24-28) • Activities during and after school all week • Each day students dress differently • Parade @ 6pm in Aptos Village on 10/25 • Football game/dance on 10/27

  16. Preparing for College • With increased competition in entering college, it is important to begin planning now • Have a rigorous schedule – take AP classes in sophomore year • Volunteer over the summer • Take summer classes at Cabrillo • Colleges look at grades from the10th and 11th grades.

  17. Thinking Ahead • If you want to go to a UC you will need to • Take the SAT 1 or ACT with Writing • AND take two SAT II Subject Tests in two different subject areas: History/Social Science, English Lit, Math, Lab Science or Language other than English • For CSU you will need • SAT 1 or ACT with Writing only • No Test needed for community college, but it is highly recommended if you want to transfer
