Tasks of Lab of Microbiology(微生物实验室的工作职责和任务） • To monitor pathogens contaminating in environment (water, air) , foods, air conditioners • To monitor infectious diseases • To do some research works for public health (especially in detection methods, food safety, professional health, environment health) • To take part in dealing with public health emergency affairs • To provide analysis data for surveillance and product safety. • To participate in and issue quality control plan • To provide professional and technical training for different microbiology lab

  20. Main co-operate Items • Join in the Global Salmonella Surveillance (GSS) • Join in the Pulse-Net Chine (which is co-operate with Pulse-Net USA) • Join in the WHO Influenza surveillance and monitoring Net • Join in the foods safety and inspects surveillance in China

Bacteria Monitoring & TestingSection • Monitoring salmonella, shigella, Vibro Cholera, E.Coli O157:H7, Vibro Parahemolyticus, staphylococcus aureus, campylobacter，Listeria Monocytogenes et al in foods (pork, beef, seafood, milk, vegetables et al), water supply and diarrhea patients • Monitoring Legionalle bacillus in air conditioners, water distribution systems and patients • Monitoring Neisseria meningitis, Group A Streptococcus and other respiratory bacteria in patient and public areasy • Monitoring vector-borne pathegons • Monitoring and testing pathogens in foodborne diseases and waterborne diseases • Monitoring antibiotic sensitivity and antibiotic resistence • Monitoring antibody level in population

Viruses Monitoring and Testing Section • Monitoring HAV ,HEV and Noro virus in seafood , water supply, riverhead and patients • Monitoring influenza and other respiratory viruses in publics and patients • Monitoring Avian influenza in publics and birds, poultries • Monitoring Japanese Encephalitis virus, Dengue fever virus and Hanta virus, et al in mosquito, mouse and patients • Monitoring Hepatitis virus such as HBV, HCV, HEV in patients • Monitoring other diarrhea viruses in patients • Monitoring hand-foot-mouth disease in children • Monitoring virus-Antibody levels in population

Monitoring Results • Comma bacillus positive in HuangPu River and sea foods • Salmonella ,pathogenic E. coli positive in pork and beef • Parahaemorrhagic vibro positive in sea foods • Legionella bacillus positive in water distribution systems and central air conditioner chilled water supplys • HAV, Noro virus positive in sea foods • Dengue virus, Japanese encephalitis virus negative in mosquito and Hanten virus antibody positive in mouse

Personal Experience • The Chief of Microbiology Lab • Responsible for lab management, lab bio-safety, including quality and technical management • Over 20 years lab practice • Familiar with pathogens isolation, identification and molecular technique( such PCR and Real-time PCR) • Graduated from the School of Public Health, Fudan University

  27. Personal Research Field • Microbiology pollution surveillance and monitor in foods, water supply and central air conditioner • Pathogenic organisms detecting and results analysis in communicable disease patients • Pathogenic organisms rapid testing methods research • Search for unknown pathogens which causes communicated disease

Goals of Fogarty Training • To understand the lab management here in California (lab safety, quality control) • To learn the research strategies and methods • To learn the planning & preparing of bioterrorism • To learn the public health emergency response strategies • To realize California’s culture, historical and social environment • To improve my English
