  1. NIST Priority Action Plan 9Demand Response and Distributed Energy Resource Signal SemanticsMeeting 20090929-30Presentation to Energy Interoperation TC 20091007

  2. Overview • PAP09 Workshop August 3-4 • Unanimous agreement on plan • Execution under way • Update and review September 29-30 PAPs 3, 4, 9, 10 • Broad discussion • Issues arising from work in progress • Summary output • No present work is invalidated • Coordination goals and approach to IEC TC57 Common Information Model • Deeper understanding EITC 20091007

  3. Slides from Meeting • Following are slides from the meeting. • Full notes are at • http://collaborate.nist.gov/twiki-sggrid/bin/view/SmartGrid/PAP34910MeetingPage • Socialized approach among stakeholders • Broader context for work • EnergyInterop, ZigBee work in parallel • Feedback to IEC CIM • Requirements input from utility industry and ISOs through NAESB • Review of high level NAESB document in progress EITC 20091007

  4. Requirements Capture Process EITC 20091007 From NIST Workshop 20090929-30

  5. Multipath Approach EITC 20091007 From NIST Workshop 20090929-30

  6. PAP 9 Responsibility Breakdown EITC 20091007 From NIST Workshop 20090929-30

  7. Consensus • IEC 61968 CIM alignment • Reuse where appropriate from published DR components with IEC 61968 CIM family for PAP9 work • If someone is developing extensions, submit them to IEC (TC57) for approval (loopback) • Incorporate where appropriate from OpenADR-OASIS • Common semantic model for inter-domain interfaces • Scope boundaries fuzzy (need to solve) • How deep do the definitions (semantics vs. syntax) go? (need to solve) • Utility commitment to IEC 61968 CIM family becomes a boundary requirement • Tactical: Need a mechanism for a joint TF to allow parties from each organization to participate in effort and share work products EITC 20091007 From NIST Workshop 20090929-30

  8. PAP 9 Tasks Identified [AGREED] EITC 20091007 From NIST Workshop 20090929-30

  9. PAP 4/3 Tasks Identified [AGREED] EITC 20091007 From NIST Workshop 20090929-30

  10. Members of Energy InteroperationTC Attending • These members of the EITC attended the NIST meeting: • Ed Cazalet • Toby Considine • William Cox • Girish Ghatikar • David Holmberg • Jeremy Roberts • OASIS Staff • James Bryce Clark EITC 20091007

  11. Affect on Energy InteroperationTC Planning • Requirements • Better and broader input (ISO, UCA, utilities) • Better focus • Not universal • Need facility input (have from membership) • Need industrial, home, other input (limited) • Need appropriate level • Review current draft (elsewhere in the agenda) EITC 20091007

  12. Action Plan Explanation • The phrases “residential” and “C&I” are shorthand for what Toby and others call “Managed” and “Collaborative” energy • “Managed Energy” refers to a direct load control-type approach, as exemplified in OpenHAN and ZigBee Smart Energy Profile • Though there are information aspects as well • The EITC is doing Collaborative Energy • The responsibilities listed are EITC; target for work and review is the IEC CIM team. • The EITC is doing more than just the work in PAP09 • That work is also in liaison process with IEC TC57 and other TCs EITC 20091007

  13. Other Action Items • Vocabulary • Under way, need to work with NAESB and other vocabulary efforts • “Downstream user requirements” are not well-represented in NAESB Requirements Process • Action on EITC members to engage • Action for I2G DEWG and others to engage • Separate slides on NAESB draft input EITC 20091007
