Legal Reasons Perkins Requirements: Section 122(c)(20) Accurate, reliable and timely Consolidated Annual Report: Section II c “attest to the state’s data quality” OMB Circular A-133 and A 87: Require review of enrollment reporting EDGAR 34 CFR 80.4: Monitoring to assure compliance

    3. Why does CTE want to improve Data Quality? Research Reasons Good research practice requires data be verified to assure: conformance to operational definitions reported values are accurate clean data improves the quality of the information and reduces errors Local systems receive statewide and local data analysis in a more timely manner for program improvement planning OVAE conditions for State Plan approval

    4. What is Tennessee’s strategy to improve data quality? Since December, FY2003, the CTE staff conducted data quality reviews to develop strategies to improve data quality PMOC developed to plan the process Staff selected with data expertise Dialogue began with CTE and Technology Divisions to plan and implement

    5. Management Information System (MIS) Previous Years Reporting to FY 2003 Data Entry Student teacher completed enrollment bubble sheets mailed to SDE to be scanned Labor intensive, costly mailing and scanning
