Balloon Moving Across the Stage:The Gearbox • Moves balloon horizontally across stage behind door frame • Switch controls direction of balloon • Small pulley acted as weight to hold string taut
Balloon Popping Effect • Balloon held in place by box with Styrofoam cushioning • Pin attached to solenoid • Solenoid pushes pin, balloon pops • Box made by Ellen’s STS project – we’re resourceful!
Balloon Falling Effect • Motor was unpredictable • 2 towels wrapped in opposite directions • Each towel held 3 balloon pieces • Towel used for Trevor to wipe hands
Snow Falling Effect • Holes poked into mailing tube • Styrofoam pieces act as snow • Pole rotates, Styrofoam falls through the holes
A Light Shining Across the Actor’s Face • Wireless box – D batteries • Activates when opened by magnetic proximity switch • Motor turns cardboard wheel with slits • Light inside wheel causes light pattern to appear on actor’s face • System shuts off when box is closed
Tech Week Tragedies • 1st rehearsal • The Spastic Motor • Gearbox • Bright light box • Wire confusion
The Performance • Everything worked properly from 10 feet away • Time limit met (barely) • Very Satisfied Director • Impressed Audience • Happy Engineers
