IMLS is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The Institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas. Oregon State Library State Library of North Carolina

Here are a few ideas to get you started for Small Businesses… • Have a handyman or woodworker build some simple • “business card display units” and set up a display in your • library to hold the business cards of local small businesses. • Be sure to display it in a prominent location with appropriate • signage such as, “Thank you for supporting our LOCAL • businesses.” • Conduct a “Meet Your Local Businesses” night at your • library. Ask restaurants or delis to sponsor the food portion • of the evening, with appropriate recognition for them doing so.

Here are a few ideas to get you started for Small Businesses… • Create local maps highlighting local business locations. • Create signage to “Support our Local Businesses.” • Support local businesses by buying locally – less globally. • Conduct a “Getting Your Small Business Online” program.

  21. What will Youdo? Here are a few ideas to get you started for Personal Finances… • Conduct a “How to Sell Online” workshop • (eBay, etsy, zazzle, cafepress, etc.). • Encourage local businesses to make coupons available • to library patrons. • Provide information on food banks, Angelfood Ministries, • church pantries, etc. • Create a post-it board where people can post ideas • about saving money.

  22. What will Youdo? Here are a few ideas to get you started for Personal Finances… • Teach teens and children how to open a savings or • checking account. • Create/find and print a basic budget form to offer to patrons. • Help them understand their wants versus their needs when • it comes to personal finances. Create a form to help them • distinguish the difference. • Conduct a workshop for seniors who have lost partners • and need help tackling their budget, their checkbook, • their taxes, etc.

  23. What will Youdo? How will you know you have succeeded? Be sure your goals are S M A R T Specific Measurable Attainable/Action-oriented Realistic and Relevant Time-bound
