  2. Christopher Columbus • In 1493 Italian explorer Christopher Columbus was sailing near the Dominican Republic. He sees three mermaids (manatees) he describes them as not half as beautiful as they are painted.

  3. Mermaid • Mermaids are half female and half fish creatures have existed in seafaring cultures at least since the time of the ancient Greeks. Usually being known for having a woman`s head and body and a fish like torso.

  4. Manatees • Mermaid sightings were manatees or dugongs. Manatees are slow moving aquatic mammals With human like eyes and paddle like tails.
