  2. Quotes about poetry by Mr. Sullivan…“A poem is a secret that the poet shares.”"You can never do anything again for the first time, but we do have poetry and paintings to capture that moment. It is evidence that you were in the world reflecting on your time."

  3. Mr. Chuck Sullivan completed a five-day poetry workshop with six ninth-grade English classes. He worked with Mrs. Mary Naber, English teacher; Amber Nance, EC teacher; Mrs. Cheryl Jeffries, English teacher; Tim Parsons, student teacher. Approximately 150 students participated in the experience. Twelve teachers participated in either the actual teaching throughout the experience or the after-school workshop.

  5. Goals of the project Students learn to connect the abstract to the concrete. Students learn how to use language in original ways by extending similes and metaphors. Students take risks and make a personal investment in their writing. Students read aloud and share their poetry. Teachers learn strategies for teaching poetry. Teachers learn how to help students connect poetry to their personal experiences. Teachers connect personally with their students.
