Framework In Action:Theory into Practice Observation Process & Forms Evaluation Rubrics
Observation Process & FormsEvaluation Rubrics • Supervisors and staff will review recommended process for observation • Supervisors and staff will understand observation does not equal evaluation • Supervisors and staff will share current implementation of Charlotte Danielson/CLASS observation forms
Observation Process & FormsEvaluation Rubrics • Supervisors and staff will share current implementation of Charlotte Danielson/CLASS rubrics or adapted rubrics for education support and administration to help inform the final evaluation • Supervisors and staff discuss, create and recommend minimum guidelines concerning the observation process, e.g. number of domains, number of observations, number of artifacts/bodies of evidence, what forms to use, etc.
What is your lens? OBSERVATION EXERCISE
What is your lens? OBSERVATION EXERCISE • Recording Observations • E huli a kama`ilio (Turn and have a conversation) • Observation Sharing
Pre-Conference Conversations Sets the Stage Sets Clear Expectations
Pre-Conference Form F: Pre-conference discussion 1. Supervisor sends out Form F to staff 2. Staff completes pre conference section of Form F prior to meeting Employee Supervisor
Pre-Conference Cont. Pre conference meeting 1. Supervisor may document discussion in preparation for observation 2. Discuss questions on Form F 3. Determine key domains/components/dimensions to be observed for feedback in the lesson or agreed upon content of observation
E huli a kama`ilio Guiding Questions: • Are these the procedures & forms participants used? • If not, what procedures & forms did you utilize? • Pros/Cons of the process & forms you used? • Recommendations for future implementation of this aspect of the evaluation process? General Considerations • Frequency of Formal Observations • Number of Domains/components/elements • Number of CLASS Domains/Dimensions • Forms • Other
Observation Supervisor conducts observation utilizing Form F: Observation Notes/CLASS Observation Sheet 1. Notate only what is observed: See Hear Teacher Student
Observation Cont. 2. Staff Completes Form F: Post Conference Reflection Section 3. Supervisor completes copies of Form G: Formal Observation Summary/CLASS Observation Summary for agreed upon domains/components
E huli a kama`ilio Guiding Questions: • Are these the procedures & forms participants used? • If not, what procedures & forms did you utilize? • Pros/Cons of the process & forms you used? • Recommendations for future implementation of this aspect of the evaluation process? General Considerations • Focused Domains/components/elements • Focused CLASS Domains/Dimensions • Forms • Other
Post Observation Conversation Reflection Collaboration
Post Observation 1. Supervisor and staff meet to discuss observation reflections and Form G 2. Staff uploads observation documents to their blackboard portfolio for inclusion in final overall evaluation review (suggestion: create an observation folder to house observation documents)
E huli a kama`ilio Guiding Questions: Are these the procedures & forms participants used? If not, what procedures & forms did you utilize? Pros/Cons of the process & forms you used? Recommendations for future implementation of this aspect of the evaluation process? General Considerations Validation of strengths & identification of areas for growth Domains/components/elements/CLASS dimensions Forms Frequency of Formal Observations Ratio of supervisor to staff Other
