STD’S: TREATMENT AND TYPES • Chancroid • Transmitted through sexual contact, not just intercourse but also skin to skin of the infected area • Symptoms show up usually 4-10 days after infection • Easily treated with Antibiotic • Chlamydia • Most common STD • Infection caused by bacteria passing through sexual contact • Infects penis, vagina, cervix, anus, urethra, eyes or throat • Few symptoms include: abdominal pain, vaginal discharge, painful intercourse • Easy to treat with different types of Antibiotics • Genital Warts • Growths on skin of the genital area and around the anus • Symptoms include; flesh colored soft to the touch bumps on skin that are like the surface of a cauliflower • Body can fight off virus however, the body does not there are several different types of treatment and best to consult with a physician to seek best treatment.
STD’S: TREATMENT AND TYPES • Gonorrhea • Caused by a bacteria passed through sexual intercourse • Often times there are no symptoms, however, some may include • Abdominal pain • Burning urination • Fever • Painful intercourse • Very easy to treat mostly with antibiotics, however each person is different and it is always best to contact a healthcare provider for additional information • Herpes • Very common infection. Caused by two different viruses, HPV-1 & HPV-2. Both can stay in the body for life and symptoms will come and go. Oral herpes are the mostly from HPV-1. Symptoms include: • Cold Sores • Fever blisters • Genital herpes are mostly from HPV-2. Symptoms include • Blister sores on vagina or penis • Burning when urinating • Itching • Open sores • There is some treatment for herpes to manage the sores but there is no cure
STD’S: TREATMENT AND TYPES • HIV/AIDS • HIV is an infection causes AIDS, you can go 10 years with no symptoms. No cure for HIV/AIDS, spread during sexual intercourse using condoms is highly recommended. • HIV/AIDS attacks the body immune system and makes a person very weak and more likely to catch other viruses such as the common cold, but because the body is already being attacked by the HIV/AIDS it is really difficult for the body to fight off something as simple as the common cold and can very easily turn into some more serious. • PID • Serious infection that can harm the womans reproductive organs. It can spread from the vagina and cervix into the fallopian tubes, uterus and ovaries. Usually caused from untreated chlamydia or gonorrhea • Most woman do not know they have PID as there are little to no symptoms. However, if symptoms do come on later they will include: • Unusually long and painful periods • Fever • Nausea, vomiting • Pain during intercourse • Pain in the lower back • There is treatment for PID, it is best to in for testing and then into contact with a professional healthcare provider to seek options for treatment. Most treatment include antibiotics, bed rest, and no sexual activity.
Closing • It is always best to know your partner and who they have been with before engaging in sexual activity • Be sure to be tested yourself and if you are positive for an STD be responsible when having a sexual relationship and let your partner know • Always use a condom during sex if you are unsure of who your partner has been with. • Best to be protected than not.
