COTAGA Highlights(Combined Ocean Tide Analysis by GRACE and Altimetry Data) EOT08a & EOT10a: two new global Empirical Ocean Tide models from re-analysis of altimetry (precursor DAROTA project) EOT-models improve - GRACE de-aliasing - Altimeter corrections Approach to combine GRACE and altimetry for a common estimate of EOT08agdeveloped and first successful application
DAROTA / COTAGA Networking COTAGA continues DAROTA and contributes to • Theme 1 (understanding the signals) and • Theme 3 (short-term processes) SPP internal exchange • EOT08a used in GRACE-GIA (loading), GEOTOP+DAROTA (used for Altimeter correction, assimilation in HAMTIDE, …) • Use of HAMTIDE results in DAROTA (validation) • Use of improved, reprocessed GRACE time series (using EOT models) in (nearly) all SPP-projects (GFZ RL05, ITG-GRACE2010) • International acceptance: • EOT08a used by Ray and Shum for validation purposes • Checked by LEGOS • Used by Scherneck to calculate loading effects
COTAGA Vision • Strategy for EOT12ag • Tidal analysis in polar oceans will benefit from CryoSAT-2 • Empirical modelling will profit from improved altimetry time series (longer, re-processed, new missions) • Combination will switch from spherical harmonics) to local base function more efficient accomodation of residual tide signals in GRACE data
