  1. Planning for Karlsruhe • See agenda at https://indico.cern.ch/event/294765/ • About 20 from muon community attending (as of Mar 6) • ~3 from DT, ~7 from CSC, ~6 from RPC, ~8 from GEM, some overlap • Plenary speakers, Weds. afternoon, 20’ each: • Anton Dimitrov on consolidation of existing muon detectors (DT, CSC, RPC) • Anna Colaleo on new muon stations (GEMs, iRPCs) • Parallel muon sessions: • Tues. 14:00-16:30 Muons Phase 2 • Tues 16:30-18:00 Muon IB (Fabrizio) • Weds. 08:30-10:00 Muons working meeting

  2. Suggestions for parallel muon sessions at Karlsruhe • Tues. 14:00-16:30 Muons Phase 2: • 30’ Simulation update (organized by Anna and Alexei) • 15’ GIF++ plans (Armando?) • 30’ DT consolidation (organized by Cristina & Marco) • 30’ RPC consolidation (organized by Gabriella & Pigi) • 15’ CSC consolidation (organized by Armando & Jay) • 30’ Discussion of muon TP draft, feedback (Fabrizio, reader group) • Weds. 08:30-10:00 Muons working meeting • 30’ GEM update (organized by Archana) • 15’ iRPC update (organized by Marcello) • 15’ Electronics update (organized by Paul) • 30’ discussion of decisions to be made, feedback from Upgrades Week thus far (round table, JH moderator)

  3. Update on Phase 2muon upgrade TP • March 24-28 Fabrizio-organized internal review • 24th→ 25th noon: release draft to muon IB (reading group) • 27th comments due • 28th muon IB reading 14.00 to 20.00 in room 354-1-016 • Recent developments: • Up to 62 pages (30 requested), decent number of figures • Will need serious pruning • IMO it’s pretty redundant, pretty rough, doesn’t make a very good case yet • … but have ~18 hours before release

  4. From 3 weeks ago: “Decisions to be made by Upgrades Week” • (DONE) DT: is MTT part of the baseline plan? • Currently not. Needs specific motivation from simulation, and/or approximate cost estimate as “option”. • *TBD* RPC: • Is multi-gap for fine time resolution the baseline (sim. results)? Or else, approximate additional cost estimate for R&D and production. (Back-end and front-end electronics) • *TBD* CSC: • Need backup plan in case trigger group decides 10 ms not enough latency • (DONE) GEM: • ME0 need to decide on baseline segmentation: 20-degree 6-layer stacks with staggering at edges for complete coverage, in 30 cm depth in z

  5. More questions from reading the TP draft • iRPCs in the barrel are not the same improvements as suggested for forward region… terminology? • In the barrel improvements are for services, in endcap for rate and aging. Perhaps the former should be iRPC, the latter “advanced” or aRPC? Or perhaps explicitly “forward” or fRPC? • It seems that background rate comparisons, CSC/RPC/DT data vs. FLUKA vs. GEANT should be addressed head-on (urgently)
