Mike Harris’s Recipe For Success A new oven cleaning business. Last year Mike Harris was made redundant after 17 years as an executive with a well known office supplier. Within four months, after commencing with a local firm, Mike was made redundant for the second time. This left him with a feeling that this was the time to take a new direction in his working life, but what? The answer came to Mike, whilst on holiday with his wife in Spain. With the weather being too hot for a couple of days he ended up cleaning the apartment. His wife had always said he was a ‘neat freak’ and actually enjoyed cleaning. On the same holiday he met a man who used to clean ovens, but had retired to Spain. Mike struck a deal with the ex-pat and under his guidance did his ‘apprenticeship’. On August 1st he started out with a new van and all the necessary equipment. Mike is very proud that the technique he uses is chemical free, apart from detergent, with all removable parts being ‘boiled’ in his van. The rest is down to a lot of hard work and elbow grease. After many years of working for someone else, Mike feels a sense of fulfilment. With many customers, some physically unable to tackle the task, amazed at his or her ‘new’ oven.
