Drought Activities Paras 4.2.8 to 4.2.10 • Inter-Regional Workshop on Indices and Early Warning Systems for Drought – recommended the use of Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) to characterize meteorological drought. Res. 4.2. • Contributed to drought risk chapter for the 2011 UN Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction (GAR11) • Organized the WMO-ISDR Expert Meeting on Agricultural Drought Indices and published the proceedings – distributed at GPDRR • Organized the Consultation Meeting to develop an Integrated Drought Management Programme – similar to APFM • High-Level Meeting on National Drought Policies (HMNDP)
NASNET, Climate Change & Agriculture Paras 4.2.11 to 4.2.14 • National Agrometeorological Station Network (NASNET) – include agromet station networks of agricultural research units under the NMHSs networks under one common umbrella in coordination with WIGOS & WIS (Resolution 6 of EC-LX) • Regional workshops organized in South Asia and West Africa led to adoption of regional climate change adaptation frameworks and proposals for establishing regional networks on climate change adaptation for agriculture • CAgM activities will provide a major contribution to the development of the User Interface Platform (UIP) of GFCS(Agriculture is one of the four GFCS priority areas)
Interactions with other WMO Programmes Paras 4.2.15 to 4.2.17 • Sand and Dust Storm Warning and Advisory System (SDS-WAS) of GAW/WWRP and CAS. Potential agricultural applications. • World Bank/WMO Project in the Lake Victoria region of East Africa: project targeting farmers and fishermen • Severe Weather Forecasting Demonstration Project (SWFDP) • Joint CCl-CHy-CAgM Working Group on Climate, Food, and Water
Training and Capacity Building Paras 4.2.20 to 4.2.22 • Guidelines for Curricula in Agricultural Meteorology (WMO-No. 258) published. Members urged to widely disseminate curricula to national institutions and to encourage their implementation • Roving Seminars on Weather, Climate, and Farmers in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Sri Lanka and Peru • METAGRI – Roving Seminars on Weather, Climate, and Farmers in West Africa (over 100 seminars in 11 countries) - Funded by AEMET • Rockefeller Foundation Training of Trainers on Weather & Climate Information/Products for Agricultural Extension Services in Ethiopia • Caribbean Agrometeorological Initiative (CAMI) – EU ACP
