  1. US Intervention in Latin America By: Shamar Ellis, Makhi Miles

  2. Why did the US Intervene? • The US intervened in Cuba because the US had businesses in Cuba. The US wanted to make sure those businesses could stay there and keep making money. • They also intervened because the Cuban Revolutionary war and the Cold War occurred at the same time, and the US thought Cuba would join the USSR and become communist. (answers.yahoo.com)

  3. Did the US take over the Cuban Government? • “Cuba and the United States of America have had an interest in one another since well before either of their independence movements. Plans for purchase of Cuba from the Spanish Empire were put forward at various times by the United States. As the Spanish influence waned in the Caribbean, the United States gradually gained a position of economic and political dominance over the island, with the vast majority of foreign investment holdings and the bulk of imports and exports in its hands, as well as a strong influence on Cuban political affairs” (wikipedia.org)

  4. When did Cuba gain independence? • “In 1902 from the United States with the Treaty of Paris. Fidel Castro controlled the island until 2008 when, due to ill health, he gave control to his brother Raul” (answers.yahoo.com)

  5. How the USA justified in intervening in this country? • Yes I think it was good that the US intervened with Cuba because now the US goal is accomplished and their neighboring countries.
