  2. Let’s get Started: Summer Retreat The Community College of RI has four campuses, three of which have their own Collegiate DECA chapter. Each summer, my chapter at the Liston Campus, joins with the Knight Campus chapter to hold our annual summer retreat. We begin with ice-breakers and team building activities to develop team spirit and to reinforce commitment to the team's shared goals and objectives.

  3. Program of Work The next step is to develop a program of work for the upcoming academic year. Our chapter uses the Passport Program as a guide to develop activities which focus on Collegiate DECA’s core values of competence, innovation, integrity, and teamwork. The Passport Program has helped members truly understand and live DECA’s core values and guiding principles.

  4. Benefits of the Leadership Passport Program The Passport Program has helped members: experience how Collegiate DECA activities connect the classroom to the boardroom gain valuable learning experiences understand the benefits of co-curricular programs that integrate with classroom instruction

Benefits of the Leadership Passport Program The Passport Program has also helped members: plana wide range of activities and participate in events that appeal to many different interests and enhancethe experiences of all members buildpersonal and professional skill sets focused around the organization’s four principle attributes and values: Competence, Innovation, Integrity, and Teamwork

  6. Year-Round Engagement: Recruitment The Liston Chapter has received the Presidential Level Chapter Leadership Passport Award EVERY year since it’s inception in 2007. As a result, this plays a big part in our recruitment drive. Members explain how our chapter is the ONLY college in the country to achieve this honor. New members are excited to join our chapter and become a part of this tradition.

Year-Round Engagement: Recruitment/Development • Because of the wide variety of activities and events involved, we appeal to a diverse group of students. • Students experience benefits such as: • Leadership Development – CLA& workshops • Professional Development – Resume workshops & Business Panels • Travel Opportunities • Networking Opportunities

  8. Year-Round Engagement: Development Returning members also explain how they earned the Individual Level Passport Award and how this experience has changed their life. Members develop strong leadership skills and they gain a competitive edge in the global job market. As a result of networking at our semi-annual Business panels, many students have received job offers or internships.

  9. Year-Round Engagement:Retention Members enjoy the various travel opportunities and competitions. (Collegiate Leadership Academy & ICDC) We set challenging requirements; students must be in good academic standing in order to travel/compete. They must also complete a certain number of hours of community service and have demonstrated leadership in numerous campus/community activities. Students must complete an Individual Passport Program in order to attend ICDC.

  10. Campus Support The Collegiate DECA Passport Program has helped our chapter gain both community and campus leadership support. Each semester our DECA members meet with the College President & his leadership team. DECA students have been invited by the President to participate in a variety of school functions, such as Professional Development Day & the Educational Expo. Our members success at both Regional & National competitions have appeared in both the college & local publications.

  11. Campus Support Our chapter had the distinction of electing the first National DECA President from the state, Elsa Tavares. Elsa served as our chapter President from 2010-2012 As a result of hosting semi-annual Business Panels, we have developed a great relationship with various community leaders. The Collegiate DECA Passport Program has helped us to develop a well-rounded campus chapter!
