“Euro-inf” accreditation Zoran Budimac
European project • Aim: to harmonize criteria for accreditation in informatics in Europe • Final goal: to form a consortium of European accreditation agencies that: • Would be accredited between themselves • After which they would be able to issue an ‘Euro-inf’ label
Partners • ASIIN - The German Accreditation Agency Specialised in Accrediting Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, the Natural Sciences and Mathematics • CEPIS - The Council of European Professional Informatics Societies • The University of Applied Sciences of Hamburg, Informatics Dep. • The University of Paderborn, Department of Computer Science
Trials • Univ. of Novi Sad – joint master studies in SE (i.e., we) • Univ. of Novi Sad – bachelor in business informatics (Fac. Of Economics) • Tuzla • Sarajevo • ???
Workshop • Brussels, 12. April, 2007 • Budimac and Zedan • Had to stay 1 day longer (airplane) • On my own • Problems with both hotels • Strike of fire-dept. at Brussels airport on my departure date, so I had to go to Amsterdam (since it is ‘nobodies fault’, I had to finance it by myself) • Caught the morning plane from there to Belgrade • Because of the long lines (1 km) for passport control I had to literally run through the (huge) Shiphol airport • Back home, it took me 4 hours to get to Novi Sad • And then I was ill for three days • Not even the best chocolate in the world and the best beer in the world and the nicest market square in the world made me happy
Discussions • The idea was attacked • Why do we need one more accreditation? • We already have two in UK – why the third one? • Who will pay for that?
Discussion – contd. • Industry representatives also attacked the idea claiming their interests are not covered in proposed principles • Answers: • there are sufficiently • Industry always want perfectly prepared graduates but never had the time and money to really discuss their needs
