2000-2001 • Students are permitted to store portable pagers and/or cellular phones in cars on school property. • Students will not be permitted to possess or use portable electronic devices during the school day or at any school-sponsored events. • At no time will such portable communication devices be permitted in school buildings.
2001-2002 In compliance with the new legislation (House Bill 67), the following procedures became effective August 28, 2001, in Calvert County Public Schools: Students may possess portable communication devices on school property; however, they must not have pagers, cell phones or any portable device capable of communication: • Turned to the “on” position, • Visible (in sight) at any time, or • Used to send or receive messages.
2002-2003 • Students may posses portable communication devices capable of communication with another such instrument on school property and/or buses during the day under the following conditions: • Must be in the “off” position, • Concealed at all times. • Students participating in extracurricular activities may use pagers, cell phones and other devices on school property after school hours.
2003-2004 Practices remained the same
2004-2005 Practices remained the same, but added: • The cellular phone must not have capabilities of taking pictures.
2005-2006 Added - Calvert County Public Schools will not be responsible for the loss of cellular phones or pagers or other communication devices. Deleted – The cellular phone must not have capabilities of taking photos.
2006-2007 Defined “In Use” • Phones in the “on” position will be considered “in use.” Added • The camera function of a cellular phone must not be used on school property or any other school sponsored activity. • Students may use pagers, cell phones and other portable devices on school property 20 minutes prior to the first bell and 20 minutes after the last bell.
