What is the function of the immune system? Read p. 147 2nd Para. & ans, • What is the function of the immune system? • The immune system protects against antigens associated with: • Pathogenic organisms. • Foreign substances,& • Cancer cells.
How does the immune system work? Examine Fig. 17-3 p. 147&148 • List the lines of defenses of the immune system that help the body to resist disease. • The presence of barriers, ex. The skin, nose hairs,& mucus • Hydrochloric acid in the stomach. • The ability of the white blood cells to engulf bacteria. • The production of antibodies .
