  16. Explore: Work • Using the equation below calculate the work required to lift an object a certain distance.

  17. Joule Newton 1m

  18. Explore: Velocity Due to Gravity • Using the equation below, calculate the velocity of an object when it hits the ground when dropped from any height you choose.

  19. Explore: Kinetic Energy • Using the same masses from the “work” table, calculate the kinetic energy of those masses when they hit the ground –dropped from the same distances used in the “work” table.

  20. Explore: Conclusion • Notice: The work required to lift a mass is equivalent to the kinetic energy of that mass when it hits the ground. That is, the initial gravitational potential energy associated with an object is equivalent to the kinetic energy of the object when it hits the ground.

  21. Explore: Pendulum –Conservation of Energy • Calculate the potential energy and kinetic energy at several points along the path of a pendulum. Verify: E = KE + PE Height

  22. Explain: Energy Conservation Physics Classroom,

  23. Evaluate • Using energy concepts, assess football helmet designs –propose improvements. • Test Guardian Cap Jaren Haser/ Sports Editor Lake Country Leader
