Liang Hwee Ting correspondent for Ben Carson Unusual story or event: In elementary school, Carson was known as the class dummy. He thought that was the way it would always be. His mother couldn’t read, but decided that she wanted her boys to do well at school. So she assigned her own homework and got the boys to make two book reports every weekend. After awhile, Carson did better at school. He started reading fun science books in the library and could soon identify rocks alongside the railroad track. Soon he became the smartest in the class…later the smartest at the grade level…later the smartest in the school. SOURCES:
