  2. John 3:1-21(p.811) • Nicodemus – comes at night. • “Lifted Up” – 3 sayings – Jesus has come down, is lifted up (crucifixion/ascension)

  3. The World • The world – made by God, but has gone radically astray, and loves darkness and fights against the light. God calls us out of the world – then sends us (like Jesus) into the world to shine as light. • God loves the world – 3:16.

  4. Be Born Again / Above • Can’t see the Kingdom unless you are born again. (3:3) • Hard work is not enough – just patches the deeper sin problem.

  5. Be Born Again / Above Born again into: • A Spirit filled and led life (vv.6-8) • Believing in Him (v.15) • Eternal life (v.15) • Light (vv.18-21) • Love (v.16)

  6. Redefining Love When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:10-13

  7. Redefining Love I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. John 17:23

  8. Redefining Love This is real love – not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. … Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. 1 John 4:10-11, 16b, 18a.

  9. Born Above to Love We need to be filled with His love. We need to share this love in community. We need to show this love in the world.
