What Are The Components of An Electric Motor • Axle • Commutator • Armature • Field Magnet • DC Power Supply
Axle, Armature and Commutator • The axle contains the armature and commutator • The armature consists of a set of electromagnets • An electromagnet is a set of thin metal plates stacked together. • Thin copper wire is coiled around each of the plates • Each end of the wire is soldered onto the plate and then wired to the commutator. • The commutator is a pair of plates attached to the axle. • These plates provide the two connections for the coil of the electromagnet. http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/motor5.htm
