  2. What is A Team? • A group of people pooling their skills, talents, and knowledge, with mutual support, to provide effective solutions to problems. • A Team is "a group of people who have a commitment to produce a result" .

  3. Why Work in Teams? • To share perspectives. • Learn from each other. • Discover more about yourself and others. • Learn something new, support each other, experiment, and have fun. • As iron sharpens iron,So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. (Proverbs 27:17)

The Five Stages of TEAM Development (Bruce Tuckman): • Forming • Team building: define team & individual roles, develop trust and communication • Task: define the task & strategy to fulfil it, identify needed resources • Storming • Conflicts arise, collaboration is low, members realize the task is harder than they first imagined • Diagnose conflicts: Find out if everyone agrees on goals, roles & responsibilities. Try to identify the problem, and work out a solution that meets everyone’s goals.

The Five Stages of TEAM Development (Bruce Tuckman): • Norming • Members accept the team, team ground rules, their roles, and the individuality of their fellow members. • Team members begin to cooperate, give constructive feedback. 4. Performing • Team members have gained insight into personal and team processes, and have a better understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses • The group has developed strategies for avoiding or resolving conflicts. • Members feel a close connection to the team.

  8. A Case Study from The Team of The Disciples • Forming: Calling the Twelve and sending them.(Mat 10: 1 – 10) • Storming: There was a dispute among the Disciples about who is the greatest . (Mar 9: 33- 37) • Norming:The Seventy returned with joy starting doing miracles (Luk 10: 17 – 21) • Performing: Starting Evangelism (Mar 28: 16 – 20) • Adjourning: Accomplishing their missions and the Crowns of Martyrdom

  10. Some Tips to have Good Team Spirit There is no “I” in “TEAMWORK”. A Successful Team Beats With One Hearts. Teamwork is birthed when you concentrate on “WE” instead of “ME” Ask yourself: Does your ego stop you from being a good team player.

  12. Be Mission Conscious The Goal is more important than the role • If you don’t know where are you going, you will end up somewhere else. • Vision inspires team • When you see the big picture correctly, you serve the team effectively.

  13. Support Group Member's Ideas How will success be measured Get an idea of the team goals, responsibilities and timelines Who in the team is responsible for what Ordinary people with commitment can create an extraordinary team. You don’t have to be really gifted or talented to be committed.

Collaboration is Multiplication All union is strength, all discord is danger • Complementing one another is more important than competing with one another. • True team members see themselves as a unit working together and never allow competition between teammates to get to the point where it hurts the team. • Effective Delegation divides efforts and multiply results

  15. Try to be as tolerant as possible When the team doesn‘t work, 99 out of 100 times there is a communication break. (POOR Communication) • Open communication fosters trust. • The more difficult a situation, the more important is to communicate, Don’t let more than 24 hours go by without addressing a conflict.

  16. Communicate, Communicate, Communicate Effective communication is a vital part of any team To create a successful team, effective communication methods are necessary for both team members and leaders.

PROMOTER/SOCIALIZER • Entertainer • Participative & Passionate • Values enjoyment and helping others • Full of ideas and impulsive in trying them • Wants work to be fun for everyone • Talkative and open about self; asks others’ opinions; • Flexible; easily bored with routine • Intuitive, creative, spontaneous • Optimist; for them nothing is beyond hope • Celebration Oriented

SUPPORTER/RELATER • Harmonizer • Values acceptance and stability in circumstances • Slow with big decisions; dislikes change • Builds networks of friends to help do work • Good listener; shy and nervous about voicing contrary opinions; concerned for others’ feelings • Easy-going; likes slow, steady pace • Friendly & sensitive; for them no person in unlovable • Relationship Oriented

So What’s the Verdict???? • If you circled the G and D, you tend toward being a Director / Controller. • If you circled the O and D, you show many qualities of an Promoter/Socializer (Expressive). • If you circled the O and I, you’re predominantly a Supporter/Relater (Affiliator). • If you circled the G and I, you have lots of Analyzer/Thinker characteristics.
