  2. What is a PowerPoint presentation? • A collection of slides used to enhance an informative speech

  3. What to Consider… • Know your audience - don’t present information that the audience already knows • Use Restraint- overusecolors or decorations don’t

  4. What to Condsider… • Be accurate and ethical - double check your information, figures and sources • Choose appropriate graphics and styles – use appropriate accents to your presentation

  5. What to Consider… • Use outline Formats – They are easier to follow, don’t write paragraphs • Use bullets - Bullets imply no significant order • Use numbers - To show rank or sequence • Use Restraint - No more than one topic per slide

  6. Use the 6 x 6 rule: • 6 lines of text per slide • 6 words per line • Allow plenty of room around borders and illustrations

  7. Select Readable Type Size • *This is 40 Point* • Minimum 36 point for titles • 24 for body text • 12 Point Font is Too Small for a presentation

  8. Use Readable Typeface and Font • Use Sans serif (no curly feet) such as Arial or body text • Serif text is difficult to read in a presentation • Use serif such as Roman for titles only

  9. Adjust Lettering to Discriminate or Emphasize • Make Titles larger type size than body elements • Emphasize important statements or words with bold, italic, larger size or different font.

  10. Choose Color Carefully • Use the same colorconsistentlythroughout the presentation • Use light letters on dark backgrounds

  11. Use Solid Colors instead of Fill Patterns on Charts • Patterns on bars or pie slices cause confusion • Solid colors convey a clear bold message

  16. Your Slides are Not your Presentation • Do not read your slides to the audience • Do not overuse PowerPoint • Too many slides become pointless!

  17. Basic Guidelines to Consider When Preparing the Content of a Presentation: • Determine the main purpose of the presentation • Determine the output • Show one idea per slide • Maintain consistent layout • Keep slides easy to read and uncluttered • Know your audience
