Things to Consider • Recent AADR Study generated by Ivoclar Vivadent concluded the most “movement” of the ceramic was when the restoration design demonstrated: • Large bulk or thicknessin the wall design • Thin wall design • Either design AND unsupported by Object Fix may create movement that affects the contact • Unsupported was defined as a small amount of object fix to stabilize the pin, not filling the entire crown or supporting the margins
Things to Consider • Design or shape of the contact • A broad contact has more surface area and would be less likely to open after crystallization than a contact that is more pinpoint. • A broad contact is less likely to change Broad Contact Pinpoint Contact
Conclusion • Restorations supported by Object Fix showed more accurate fits than unsupported restorations • Always fill the restoration entirely with the object fix material as this provides support during the crystallization and minimizes any chance of distortion • Thick or thin wall designs not supported may show movement • Always use the approved crystallization temperatures and calibrate the porcelain furnace regularly. As temperatures fluctuate so does the chance that the shrinkage is greater 0.2%.
