Data lessons learned..50,000 !!! • 1980- 51,091 motor vehicle deaths involving 63,000 drivers • 16-24 year olds constituted 17% of the population and were involved in crashes resulting in 48% of fatalities • More than 50% of fatalities involved impaired drivers • Seat belt use rate 11% in 1980
MAP-21 Section 405 • Consolidates multiple grant programs into larger program with more flexibility • New grants – Distraction, GDL, Interlock as part of Alcohol grant program • Unallocated funds to be reallocated by NHTSA • Maintenance of Effort based on aggregate State expenditures • Provides funding for In-Vehicle Alcohol Detection Device (DADSS) research
MAP-21 • The Section 405 National Priority Safety Programs grant combines a number of existing SAFETEA-LU Grants (405, 408, 410, 2010, 2011), with some modifications. • OP- $42.4 • DATA - $38.4MID -$118.2M • Interlock- $20.9M • Distraction-$17.5M (+ $5M for national media) • MC - $3.9M • GDL-$13.2M
