  3. 1. Geographical setting Botoşani county is situated in the north-east area of the country, and it spreads over 4986 square metres(approximately 2,1% from the entire area of the country) . The county is inhabited by 452.834 people according to the last census which was organized in 2004, with a population density of 90,8 people /km; Botoşani is the county rezidence and also its biggest town; it is situated in the south- west area of the county, at the meeting point of Moldova Plain and Suceavaplataeu/tableland, on the interfluve of Sitna and Dresleuca rivers. Botoşani county is crossed by two major rivers, Siret and Prut, having the north border with Ukraine and the east border with Moldova. At the west side there is Suceava county and Iaşi county at the south. Botoşaniis the core of the county and the crosspoint of its main roads. The main villages around Botoşani are : MihaiEminescuon the north, Răchiţi on the east, Băluşeni on the South and Curteşti on the west.
