Hydrochloric Acid Pickling . In hydrochloric acid pickling, the acid reacts with the scale on the steel as follows:Fe2O3 Fe 6HCl = 3FeCl2 3H2OFe3O4 Fe 8HCl = 4FeCl2 4H2OFeO 2HCl = H2O FeCl2 The iron stays in solution in the hydrochloric acid as ferrous ion (Fe2 ). . . . . 2. Hydrochloric Acid Pickling In hydrochloric acid pickling, the acid reacts with the scale on the steel as follows:
Fe2O3 + Fe + 6HCl = 3FeCl2 + 3H2O
Fe3O4 + Fe + 8HCl = 4FeCl2 + 4H2O
FeO + 2HCl = H2O + FeCl2
The iron stays in solution in the hydrochloric acid as ferrous ion (Fe2+)
