Study Procedure • 21 subjects enrolled in the study • Parameters measured (at baseline, day 0 and end of study, day 21) • Fasting Blood Glucose • Postprandial Blood Glucose • HbA1c (glycosylated hemoglobin) • Cholesterol • Triglyceride • Direct LDL cholesterol • Very low density lipoprotein • HDL cholesterol • Antidiabetic medication usage Lab parameters were compared before and after the administration of holistic therapy.
Results Change in Lab parameters at the end of the 21 day Holistic Therapy
Results: Fasting Glucose • Out of 21 subjects enrolled in the study, 12 subjects showed reduction in fasting glucose levels at the end of 21 day holistic therapy. • Mean fasting glucose value reduced from155.29 mg/dl to 141.71 mg/dl.
Results: PP Glucose • Out of 21 subjects enrolled in the study, 14 subjects showed reduction in postprandial glucose levels at the end of 21 day holistic therapy. • Mean postprandial glucose value reduced from 240.91 mg/dl to 211.29 mg/dl - a fall of about 29 units.
Results: HbA1c • Out of 21 subjects enrolled in the study, 20 subjects showed reduction in HbA1c levels at the end of 21 day holistic therapy. • Mean glycosylated hemoglobin showed a decrease from 8.44% to 7.72%.
Results: Triglycerides • Out of 21 subjects enrolled in the study, 13 subjects showed reduction in triglycerides level at the end of 21 day holistic therapy. • Mean triglyceride level reduced from 167.24 mg/dl to 158.52 mg/dl.
Results: VLDL • Out of 21 subjects enrolled in the study, 14 subjects showed reduction in VLDL (very low density lipoprotein) level at the end of 21 day holistic therapy • Mean VLDL values showed a reduction from 33.45 to 30.94 mg/dl.
Results: Maximum Change Maximum Change seen in Lab parameters at the end of 21- day Holistic Therapy
Medication Usage Antidiabetic Medication Usage at the End of Holistic Therapy *No information on prescreening medication for 1 subject and 1 subject was not on any antidiabetic medication. **No information for 3 antidiabetic medications at the end of study period.
Study Conclusion • With 21 day dietary therapy (plant based diet) and other modalities of holistic healing like yoga, meditation, acupressure etc., reduction was seen not only in blood sugar levels (fasting and postprandial blood glucose), HbA1c but also some of the lipid profile parameters like triglycerides and VLDL. The consumption of antidiabetic medication was also reduced at the end of the 21 day period. • The results of the study conducted by “Our Native Village Eco Resorts” on the effect of 21-day Holistic Therapy on Diabetes Mellitus indicate that the program supporting lifestyle change can be very effective in diabetes prevention and control.
