Why is it important to the Athletic Population? • Athletics has become a very important part of our society. • Provides individuals with a sense of identity. • It is a money making business at some levels. • Opportunities for College scholarships. • Signing Bonuses • Big Contracts • Playoff Money • Which setting would you think gets paid the most?
Group Assignment In groups of 3-4 look through pages 6-13 and create your own sports medicine team. Who is in charge?

Under the What do Athletic Trainers do? section you will find brochures that will aid you in answering the following questions. What is a certified athletic trainer? What credential do they hold? What are the five major practice domains (roles and responsibilities) of the certified athletic trainer? What do the Initials NATA stand for? For extra credit what is the difference between Athletic Trainers and Personal Trainers?

Education Requirements • Must complete a bachelors or masters degree in athletic training. • Formal Instruction • Clinical Education (Must complete hours) • Must pass a three part comprehensive exam. • 150 multiple choice exam on a computer simulator
