ACT • College entrance exam accepted by almost all colleges nationwide • Normally taken during spring of Junior Year • In Illinois, the ACT is taken as part of the PSAE • Nationally, ACT offers this exam to students nationwide six times per year • Test consists of four subject areas and one optional writing exam • Best Composite (overall score) 36 • Score accepted by colleges varies
ACT Continued • Most students take the ACT more than once • Illinois students must sign up at actstudent.org and pay a fee for any ACT exam taken on a Saturday • The PSAE –ACT is given on a school day: April 23, 2013 • National Exams are offered in September, October, December, February, April and June
ACT Prep • Best Recommendation: Sign up for a prep class in the spring / sign up to take the ACT on national test day in either April or June All students will take the April 23 test at school –no charge, sign up will be at school
ACT Prep Options • Three prep providers at HHS: • Revolution Prep – Two days per week beginning in February – cost: $600.00 • ExcelEdgeACT36 – One day per week beginning in February for eight weeks – cost: $230.00 • ZAPS – Two afternoons in April – cost: $89.00
HHS ACT Prep • ACT on line preparation provided to all Illinois students • Classroom college readiness / ACT prep in all subject areas • Skill intervention for students not at college readiness benchmarks – study hall portion of lunch
SAT • SAT exams are typically taken by student on the east coast. • Two types of tests: • SAT Reasoning - • SAT Subject Exams –Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, US History, French, Spanish, German, Modern Hebrew, Latin, Italian, Several languages with listening – Chinese included Highly Selective Schools – usually take the ACT as an entrance exam and require two or more subject exams
