WHY A DECLINE IN FEDEERAL ELECTIONS? • Larger Electorate. • Population increase. • Minority enfranchisement. • Drop in Voting Age – 18 years through 26th Amendment. • Less Party Mobilization. • More Mobile Population. • Dealignment. • Less party identification. • Rising Cynicism. • Apathy. • Loss of Efficacy.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PRESIDENTIAL AND MID-TERM ELECTIONS • Media interest greater in Presidential elections. • Greater information available about Presidential candidates. • National conventions are infomercials. • Mobilization – voting drives. • Perception of a greater importance in Presidential races.
