  4. Ocean Oceans are the largest bodies of salt water on earth.

  5. River A large natural stream of water emptying into a lake, ocean or larger body of water.

  6. Desert A desert is a hot dry region with little rainfall.

  7. Peninsula An area of land that is nearly surrounded by water.

  8. Prairie A prairie is a region of flat or hilly land covered by tall grasses.

  9. Lake A lake is an inland body of water. This is a picture of Blowdown lake in the mountains near Pemberton British Columbia.

  10. Island An island is a piece of land that is completely surrounded by water.

  11. Plateau A plateau is a flat area of land higher than the land around it.

  12. Plain A plain is a large, low area of flat or rolling land with few trees.

  13. Valley A valley is an area of low land between mountains or hills.

  14. Mountain A mountain is a high area of land with steep sides and a sharp peak. This is a picture of Mount Everest. Everest soars 29,028 feet (8,848 meters) above Nepal and the Tibet region of China.

  15. Forests A forest is an area with a high density of trees . Forests sometimes contain many tree species within a small area as in a tropical rain and temperate deciduous forests. Forests are home to many animal and plant species.
