Effects on personnel Due to the need for businesses to respond to market changes the following problems have arisen: • Redundancy • Voluntary redundancy • Job change • Resistance to change from employees • De-motivated employees • Job security and insecurity • Anxiety • Working conditions
Training • In order to manage change staff often need to be retrained and learn new skills. • Learn a greater variety of skills so businesses can be flexible. • Learn new skills so that staff can keep a job in the company.
Training is needed to … • Introduce a new process or equipment • Improve performance and efficiency • Train unskilled workers • Reduce the need for supervision • Provide greater opportunities for the staff
Personal reasons for training may be to … • Gain promotion to another job • Gain more money – increase pay • Reduce the number of accidents in the workplace
Task • You have been given the task of trying to change the attitude of the people that work with you, with regards to training as they feel it is not work it. • Give your reasons as to why you think they should change their attitude.
