AXIe: A New Instrumentation Standard What is ATCA? • ATCA = AdvancedTelecomm Computing Architecture. It is a proven open standard system architecture used to build advanced telecom equipment systems What is AXIe? • An open standard that eXtends ATCA for general purpose test by adding high speed local bus, timing, and triggering • Maintains compatibility with PXIe and LXI because it uses the same communication standards: PCIe and LAN • Publicly introduced November 10, 2009 • AXIe 1.0 standard was approved on 6/30/10

Top AXIe FAQs • What is the difference between AXIe and PXIe? • AXIe is a modular standard that is a big brother to PXI providing great space and power for those applications that need it. It is based on the existing AdvancedTCA (ATCA) standard with extension for Test and Measurement Instrumentation. • What is the difference between AXIe 1.0 and 3.1? Are Agilent AXIe products compatible with both? • The AXIe 1.0 specification is a base-level standard for “general-purpose” applications. Our AXIe chassis comply with the AXIe 1.0 standard. The AXIe 3.1 standard an extension built upon the base standard and is intended for semiconductor test applications. This extension utilizes an additional backplane connector. Modules that comply with the 1.0 standard will work in a chassis designed for the 3.1 application. Modules built specifically for a 3.1 application will fit into a 1.0 chassis but may not fully function (as the additional connector does not exist in a 1.0 chassis). Top AXIe FAQs • Do I always need two chassis when having a mix of few PXI and AXIe cards? • Today that is the case. However, AXIe physically and electrically would allow the possibility of a carrier to put PXI cards into AXIe • AXIe has a LAN interface – can it be used with all AXIe modules? • LAN (as well as PCIe) are defined by the standard but not required. A given module can use either or both as the application requires. Agilent’s chassis does have a PCIe-LAN bridge to allow an external computer connected via PCIe cable to communicate to LAN-based modules. There are technical reasons why the opposite is not possible Group/Presentation Title Agilent Restricted 10 September 2010
