What makes this song different from other protest songs? It is not so much about protesting the war but more about protesting the draft and the privileges of the rich. What is its subject? The Draft What is the songwriter trying to say about that subject? There was unfair drafting practices, the rich and those with connections were excluded from the draft. Create a statement that embodies the theme or message of the song. The rich are getting out of going to war and the poor are the ones fighting. it Write one quote from the song that is evidence to support this as the theme. “It ain’t me, it ain’t me.
