Suggestions 1. Revisiting the aim of education • To builda better future • To breed a better human-being UNDHR, Article 26 “Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.”

Global military spending in 2011: $1.74 trillion • Estimated costs to eliminate ALL illiteracy: $ 5 billion (1/340 of global military spending)
Brief Introduction to APCEIU Establishment • The Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) was established in 2000 to promote EIU for Learning to Live Together in the Asia-Pacific region according to the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Korea and UNESCO.
What is EIU? • The most representative UNESCO educational program launched since its beginning in 1946 • Priority has been changed, but three core principles are still effective: • Respect of diversity • Respect of Universal Values – Human rights, Peace, Environment • Non-violent way of conflict resolution
Main Activities • Training for educators • Development of teaching and learning materials

EIU Capacity Building of Educators (2001-2010) • 10 Asia-Pacific Training Workshop on EIU (01-10), 565 participants from 45 countries • 25 Sub-regional and National Workshops, 2500 participants
